Sequential Circuits Prophet 2000

The Prophet 2000/2002 is an 8 voice 12 bit digital audio sampler. The 2000 features a 5 octave velocity sensitive keyboard while the 2002 is a 3u (?) rackmounted version. Able to store up to 16 sounds at once, multisampling, layering and keyboard splits are possible. Sounds are stored onto an inbuilt double sided 3.5″ disk drive. Polyphony is “hardwired” and an arpeggiator is included.

What makes the p2k especially great is that each voice features true analog 4 pole low pass VCF, a VCA, and velocity
controlled, four stage envelopes.

Downloads

  • Finally, you can download a 10Mb Adobe Acrobat PDF file of the Sequential Prophet 2000 Operation Manual here!
  • You can get a very badly faxed copy of the service manual here as a 697k PDF file.
  • There is an old 68k Apple Mac version of Sound Designer specifically for the Sequential Prophet 2000 here (we never did get it to run). Probably naughty to put it up so I’ll take it down if anybody asks me to.

Software Versions

Winecountry sell a V4.3B ROM.
This was the highest level ever available and is required for operating the 8-output kit or 1-Meg memory.
It includes local off, x-fade looping, & fixes the Note OFF Bug in MIDI MODE 3b.

Our current version is v4.2. We think this added X-Fade looping.

We know that updating to v3.0 (released 27/1/86?) from v2.1 increased memory to 512k RAM and also added the ability to map up to an 88 note keyboard.

877 Expansion Kit (upgrades to 512k RAM + double-sided drive)

Initial versions of the p2k were only fitted with single-sided floppy drives. The serial numbers for these units were:
1 through 1013, 1015, 1019, 1020, 1021, 1023, 1024, 1035, 1036, 1039, 1041, 1043, 1048, 1052, 1056, 1065, 1066, 1067 & 1070.

878 Expansion Kit (upgrades to 512kb RAM)

880 Expansion Kit (upgrades to 1Mb RAM)

8 Output expansion kit

As sold by Winecountry.
Not sure if this was an “official” sequential circuits mod or a winecountry addition.
See how they did it at the cave.

It seems many people have the need to replace there p2k floppy drive.

The original DSD-200 replacement drive kit may be hard to find.
